BLOGGIN' OUT: A couple months ago my blog was offline for a while when I forgot to renew the domain name, which was followed by a week of misadventures with Google's nonexistent customer service. When I went to renew the domain I found out, to my surprise, that the domain marcuskwameblog.com had apparently been snatched up by someone else overseas. I'm pretty sure their name isn't Marcus Kwame, but I guess they liked the name. The moral of the story is if you are trying to get to my blog use this address: www.marcuskwame.blogspot.com. If you have Bloggin' Out bookmarked, update the address. Thanks.

ELTON'S SHOES: If you are looking for some summer reading, check out Elton's Shoes, the tale of a young boy struggling to overcome both internal and external obstacles. "It is a story about the loss of innocence, perseverance and what it means of believe in yourself and others." Elton's Shoes was written by Wendell Harris and I painted the cover illustration. It's a a good read for kids and young adults. You can find it on Amazon.

This new piece was inspired by the murder of Trayvon Martin and the injustice of his killer remaining a free man. Beyond this tragedy/travesty of justice, it was also inspired by the long history of black men and boys who have died unnecessarily in this country. Some at the hands of lynch mobs. Some by violence in our neglected communities. Some who were unarmed and died at the hands of the police like Amadou Diallo and Sean Bell, victims of suspicion and bias. Some of these men and boys death's made national news like Trayvon and Emmett Till. Many remain largely nameless. They all deserve recognition. Our lives are valuable and that value needs to be recognized and respected by this country.
